Jon M. Wieldt, age 80, of Salem, Illinois, passed away on May 3, 2026, at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Jon was born on October 5, 1945, in Flora, Illinois, to Arthur and Bonnie (Mitchell) Wieldt. He grew up in Flora and graduated from Flora High School. He later attended Murray State University, where he earned a degree in accounting.
On January 1, 1977, Jon married Susan Guinn in Flora. Together, they built a life in Salem, raising two children and sharing 49 years of marriage. Jon worked as a CPA at Leymone Hardcastle and Co., where he became a valued partner. He also served on the Board of Directors for the First Community Bank of Xenia for 31 years.
Jon was an active member of Salem First Baptist Church for over 40 years, serving as a deacon, AWANA leader, and longtime treasurer. He was also a dedicated member of the Gideons, where he enjoyed distributing Bibles.
Jon had a deep love for hunting—whether bow hunting, muzzle loading, or pursuing deer, turkey, or squirrel. He especially treasured time spent with his hunting friends and his coffee shop buddies. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; his children, Libby Holmes of Orlando, Florida, and Carrie Wors and husband David of Churubusco, Indiana; grandchildren, Alec Holmes and wife Jadah, Abby Holmes, Ally Holmes, Cooper Holmes, Maxwell Wors, and Jackson Wors; and siblings, Jim Wieldt and wife Rose, and Becky Sulsburger and husband Bob.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bonnie Wieldt.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Salem First Baptist Church, with Andy DeWitt officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
