Fourth Circuit Court Judge Wes Gozia of Salem says a discovery recount has failed to find enough evidence to seek a full recount in the judicial race he lost by just 16 votes.

As a result, the campaign is planning no further action and are congratulating Fayette County State’s Attorney Brenda Mathis on winning the April election to the at large judgeship in the nine county fourth circuit.

The final vote in the five-way race showed Mathis with 8,132 votes, Gozia with 8,116 votes, Effingham County State’s Attorney Aaron Jones with 6,975 votes and Clay County State’s Attorney Phil Givens with 4,779 votes.

Gozia, who was appointed to the position last year to fill an unexpired term, will remain on the bench until December when Mathis will be sworn in to begin her term.

On April 20th, the Gozia campaign announced they were filing a discovery recount request for select precincts in Christian, Fayette, Montgomery and Shelby Counties.  The process was completed on Monday.
