The Executive Director of the Amy Center is pleased with the turnout at the first-ever Prevention Picnic held at Fairview Park in Centralia over the weekend.
Amy Wharton wanted to hold a resource event in April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month. She says it became a reality with a Walmart SparkGood and several organizations joining in.
“People know there are services, but they don’t necessarily know who does what, who helps with what, and how to go about participating in those services. I think events like this are important for people to come face-to-face with representatives from those agencies and maybe learn a little bit more about how to enroll in their services or take advantage of them a little bit better.”
Wharton says the event also provided information, food, games, and other free activities for the families in attendance. She is hoping the event can be repeated in the future.
