Over 750 kids converged on the Wamac City Park Sunday for the Wamac Areas 16th Annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Coordinator Butch Mathus says he always wants to make sure every kid gets something since it might be the only thing they receive for Easter. He notes everyone gets a goodie bag upon arrival. Mathus says then a lot of prizes are up for grabs.
“86 Easter baskets, 69 bikes, lots of toys that we had with the toy auctions at the Masonic Lodge here in Centralia and the Central City Lions Club last year. We’re going to plan for more bicycles and stuff for the kids for next year, but I want to give a tip of the hat to all of the civic organizations, the businesses and individuals that made this possible, because you guys put a lot of smiles on the children’s faces.”
Mathus says six motorcycle clubs play a key role in holding fund raisers to help purchase the prizes as well as helping with the hunt. He’s also very appreciative of the support from Wamac Police and Public Works as well as all of the volunteers.
