Jefferson Fire officials say northbound and southbound traffic on I-57 at mile marker 97 about three miles north of Mt. Vernon was down to a single lane early Sunday night after three semi trucks collided.
Initial information indicates one of the northbound trucks attempted to use an emergency turn around lane and was struck in the rear by two other semis. The impact pushed the truck making the turn into one of the southbound lanes.
All three drivers refused hospital treatment.
The crash occurred at 6:30 Sunday night. It took about two hours to remove the trucks. None were carrying hazardous materials.
