Centralia Varsity Orphans took Tuesday’s game in dramatic fashion, with a 2-1 walk-off victory over Carbondale. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the seventh when Bryden Hall singled, scoring one run.
Both teams were strong on the bump. Centralia Varsity Orphans pitchers struck out six, while Carbondale sat down two.
A fly out by Cole Roberts put Carbondale on the board in the top of the third.
Gabe Houser flew out, which helped Centralia Varsity Orphans tie the game at one in the bottom of the sixth.
Michael Organ earned the win for Centralia Varsity Orphans. The right-handed pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Connor Daly took the loss for Carbondale. The hurler went six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking one. Archie Goewey began the game for Centralia Varsity Orphans. The pitcher allowed three hits and one run over three innings, striking out five and walking none. Valon Williams tossed two innings of scoreless ball for Centralia Varsity Orphans in relief. The reliever allowed one hit, striking out none and walking none.
Rhett Lambert and Hall each collected two hits for Centralia Varsity Orphans. Houser and Hall each drove in one run for Centralia Varsity Orphans.
Tyler Karayiams led Carbondale with three hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Roberts led Carbondale with one run batted in.
Centralia Varsity Orphans welcome Flora on Wednesday for their next game.
