Even though Centralia Varsity Annies collected eight hits to Carbondale’s five, they still fell 6-4 on Tuesday. Pyper Chapman and Josie Venturini each collected two hits for Centralia Varsity Annies.
Centralia Varsity Annies was right in it until Carbondale reached on an error in the eighth inning.
A single by Sydney Tanner put Carbondale on the board in the top of the first.
Venturini grounded out, which helped Centralia Varsity Annies tie the game at four in the bottom of the seventh.
Lauren Lehman earned the win for Carbondale. The starter surrendered eight hits and four runs (zero earned) over eight innings, striking out two and walking two. Emrie Quick took the loss for Centralia Varsity Annies. The hurler went eight innings, surrendering six runs (zero earned) on five hits, striking out 15 and walking five.
Adaleigh Donoho led Centralia Varsity Annies with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The second baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Donoho stole two bases.
Tanner drove the middle of the lineup, leading Carbondale with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Lillian Graham, Kaelyn Viernum, Chloe Dyer, Anniston Thompson, and Tanner each collected one hit for Carbondale. Tanner led Carbondale with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying five walks for the game.
Centralia Varsity Annies play at home on Wednesday against Breese Central in their next game.
