The Mt Vernon Lady Rams dropped their first softball game of the spring, losing to a really tough Freeburg squad 3-0.
Both teams were strong in the circle, but Freeburg was just a little stronger at the plate.
Freeburg scored in their first at bat on a Joseph RBI single. They would add to their early lead in the second inning after Grace Fassbinder got an infield single, Joseph was struck by a pitch and each scored a run to make it 3-0.
Danicah Tobin went six innings for the Lady Rams allowing just 2 earned runs on 4 hits and 8 strikeouts.
Taylor DeSmith went 2-3 to lead Mt Vernon.
Mt Vernon falls to 5-1.
The Lady Rams opened Saturday with a 12-0 win over Steeleville.
Arwyn Wilkey went 4-5 with a double. Emma Pinkston threw 7 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts.
Mt Vernon got on the board in the first after Taylor DeSmith singled and Paige Watson grounded out, each scoring a run. Mia Porter would add an RBI groundout in the 2nd inning to extend the lead to 3-0.
Mt Vernon added in the 3rd inning after Wilkey and Watson had RBI singles and Lexxi Howard and Elaina Schulte added RBI ground outs.
Watson and Wilkey each drove in 2 runs. DeSmith, Tobin and Schulte also had multiple hits.
