A 15-year-old Cisne boy was killed when the side-by-side he was operating collided with a semi.
Clay County Coroner Bryce Henry identifies the victim as Owen W. Bailey. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on U.S. 50 at Ironwood Road early Sunday night.
Henry says it appears that Bailey was traveling westbound on the shoulder of US 50 and was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Ironwood Road when for unknown reasons he pulled out in front of an eastbound semi, causing the semi to strike the side-by-side.
The accident is under investigation by Illinois State Police and the Clay County Coroner’s office.
Agencies assisting with the crash were the Xenia Fire Protection District, Clay County Ambulance Service, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Flora ESDA, Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Clay County Coroner’s office.
