Salem Police arrested a 17-year-old homeless Salem juvenile wanted on multiple charges following a short foot chase Thursday night.

The juvenile had allegedly led police on a chase March 19th in a vehicle that had earlier been stolen.

The 17-year-old ran when initially approached by police in the 300 block of North College on Thursday evening, but gave up a few blocks away and was taken into custody.

Police say the initial incident began with a car being stolen in the 300 block of West Allman.  The vehicle was later found in Bryan Memorial Park and attempted to leave.   When police tried to stop the vehicle on Illinois Street near Hawthorn School, it fled at a high rate of speed with the chase being suspended on Ohio Street due to unsafe conditions.   The vehicle was later found parked in an alley off Puryn Street.   It was towed to the Salem Police Station where the State Department of Criminal Investigation was able to obtain information on the driver at the time of the chase.

The juvenile is being held for two counts of fleeing and eluding, vehicle burglary and theft, as well as criminal damage to a fence at a home on Porter Street that was allegedly knocked over when the original theft of the car took place.   Multiple traffic citations have also been written following the chase.
