The Centralia City Council approved a resolution to set the salary of new fire chief Blake Perez at $99,050 a year plus benefits. The contract takes effect March 30, and the formal swearing-in ceremony will be held on March 30 at 3:30 p.m.
An ordinance to dissolve the Centralia Industrial Commission was approved. Under new city code, the revolving loan program no longer exists, which leaves the commission without a function.
The council approved a bid from J.K. Trotter and Sons for replacement of the water line on the Jolliff Bridge Road from Wal-Mart to the Kaskaskia College water tower for $299,420. They also approved a bid from Schulte Supply for pipe materials for $146,374.
The council passed a resolution to authorize the addition of the National Public Pension Fund Association deferred compensation plan as an employee benefit. The plan is optional and can help employees save toward retirement, including post-retirement healthcare.
Two public works vehicles were purchased from Crump’s Auto and Trailer sales at a cost of $54,000, waiving the bidding requirement.
A proclamation was given declaring Major League Baseball Opening Day, March 26, Gary Gaetti day in honor of the achievements of Centralia-born MLB player Gary Gaetti. On the day, Gaetti Sports Academy will have a crawfish boil at Castle Ridge from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., raising funds for the Illinois State Police youth summer camp.
