Wildcats Fall At Belleville West, JV Gets Win
The Salem baseball team is in action today at home against Benton. Yesterday, Salem dropped a tough 2-1 decision at Belleville West to fall to 0-4 on the season. Brody Collier was the starter for the Cats and he allowed 2 runs, one earned, on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts in 5 innings. Logan Butts worked the final inning allowing just one hit. Eli LoGrasso, Luke Boldt and Collier each had hits for Salem and drove in runs.
The Salem JV came away with a 9-8 win. The game was tied at 8 in the top of the seventh when Tripp Garden singled home a run for the Cats. Salem grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the 3rd after Scout Puricelli doubled to center and Zane Applegate scored him on a fly out. Jax Schaubert was the winning pitcher allowing 2 hits and 2 runs over 2.2 innings. Applegate was the starter allowing 2 earned runs over 4 innings with 9 strikeouts.
Mt Vernon Routs Crystal Lake Central To Improve To 3-1
Mt Vernon will host Triad as the Rams enter at 3-1 following Monday’s win over Crystal Lake Central 11-1. Cale Maurer went 4 innings for the win allowing no earned runs on 6 strikeouts. He added 2 RBI on 2 hits at the plate. Nolan Mast went 2-3 with 2 RBI and Ty Pierce had a double and RBI. Trevor McClure, Ryker Perigo, Maxwell Nowak, Eli Prost, Owen Burke and Ethan Fitzjerrells added hits as well. Prior to their game yesterday, 2016 Mt Vernon grad and former Ram standout Walker Brockhouse threw out the first pitch. After college at Memphis, Walker has been pitching professionally in the Astros Organization.
Organ’s HR Not Enough In Orphans Loss to Mascoutah
The Centralia orphans couldn’t keep up with Mascoutah falling 11-1. The Orphans got their run from Michael Organ who hit a solo homerun in the first inning. Dax Snow took the loss for the Orphans. Gabe Houser added a hit as well. The Orphans are at Herrin tomorrow.
OPS Takes Late Lead In Win Over Cisne
Odin/Patoka/Sandoval beat Cisne 4-3 after taking the lead late. Brady Cain came up with the RBI groundout in the bottom of the fifth when the game was tied at 3. Cain was the starter for OPS and allowed 6 hits and 3 runs, just 2 earned, over his five innings. Ben Spencer threw 2 innings of no run ball relief. Drew Haines, Kyan Walker and Kody Burks each had a hit. Cain and Hunter Thompson drove in runs.
NC Cardinals Shutout Neoga
North Clay scored six runs in the 3rd inning helping them beat Neoga 11-0. Ian Jones earned the win allowing no hits over 3 innings with 5 strikeouts. Ben Czyzewski and Talon Hemphill threw for the Cardinals in relief. Jones, Carder Waldon and Jack Compton each had 2 hits with Walden, Trenton Ingram, Cody Zimdars and Will Ballard driving in 2 runs each. North Clay plays at Brownstown/St Elmo today.

Blake Hanke went 4-5 as Christ Our Rock beat Flora 11-1. Brayden Albert added 4 hits as well. Colton Cartright drove in 3 runs going 2-5. Christ Our Rock is at home against Maryville Christian today.
Fairfield Beats SC In Cougars Opener
Fairfield knocked off South Central at Lions Field in Kinmundy 4-3. Garrett Shumate tied the game at 2 in the 3rd on a 2-run single. Boston Isaacs gave Fairfield the lead in the 3rd on a home run to left field. Chase Guerrettaz started for SC allowing 2 hits and 2 runs, no earned, over 2 innings. Isaacs started for the Mules allowing 4 hits and 2 runs with 6 strikeouts over 4 innings. Hudson Moore led SC with 3 hits. Guerrettaz, More and Shumate drove in SC runs.
