The Salem Wildcats Baseball team dropped both games played at SIU-Carbondale on Saturday.

In the opener, Salem saw two separate 3-run leads evaporate as Carterville came back to beat the Cats 8-6.

The game was tied at 6 in the bottom of the sixth when Carterville’s Jack Dodson singled, scoring two runs.

Salem got on the board in the first after Logan Butts singled down the left field line, Carter Lowe grounded out, and Brody Collier doubled to left field, each scoring a run.

Aidan Gusta doubled down the left field line helping Carterville tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the fourth.

A single by Eli LoGrasso gave Salem back the lead 5-3 in the top of the fifth. But Carterville flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the 6th, scoring five runs on five hits to take the 8-6 lead.

Keaton Basolo was the winning pitcher for Carterville giving up 3 runs and one unearned run over three innings with 4 strikeouts.

Aaden Rostance was the starter for Salem allowing 5 hits and 5 runs over 5.0 innings. Luke Boldt went 2/3 taking the loss.

LoGrasso and Brody Collier each had 2 hits for Salem. LoGrasso drove in 2 runs. Gusta drove in 3 for the Lions.

In the second game Salem couldn’t keep up with conference rival Breese Central losing 14-0. Keytin Grawe took the loss for the Cats. Luke Boldt led Salem with his single.

Salem falls to 0-3 on the season.
