The Centralia City Council Monday night will be asked to pass an ordinance to sell its animal control facility at 853 Woods Lane to Marion County for their new animal shelter.  The county will pay the city $160,000 for the 2.5 acres of property.  The sale is contingent upon financing by the county, an appraisal and inspection.   The council will also be asked to approve intergovernmental agreements with both Marion and Clinton Counties to provide animal control services to the city.   Centralia will pay Marion County $30,000 this year, and $15,000 a year in 2028 and 2029.  The city will also have to maintain the facility grounds of the animal shelter.  The agreement with Clinton County for animal control is for $3,000 annually.  Both contracts require animals picked up to be held for seven days, after which they may be adopted, euthanized or transferred.   The Marion County Board will be asked at its meeting Tuesday night to complete the purchase of the Centralia Animal Control facility.

The council will also be asked to approve a resolution with its new fire chief Blake Perez to set his salary at $99,050 a year plus benefits.

An ordinance will be presented to dissolve the Centralia Industrial Commission. Under new city code, its final duty of overseeing the city’s revolving loan program is no longer needed since the fund is no longer in existence.

A $299,420 bid from J.K. Trotter and Sons will be up for approval for replacement of the troublesome water line on the Joliffe Bridge Road from Wal-Mart to the Kaskaskia College water tower.

The council will be asked to approve a resolution to authorize the addition of the National Public Pension Fund Association deferred compensation plan as an employee benefit.

A resolution to waive bidding requirements and to purchase two public works vehicles from Crump’s Auto and Trailer Sales at a cost of $54,000 will also come before the city council.

Mayor Bryan Kuder will sign a proclamation declaring the first day of the professional baseball season as Gary Gaetti Day and April as Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  The SAFE organization is also seeking permission to join the national initiative of Paint the Town Teal as part of the recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The meeting will begin at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
