Salem Cats 12u softball team played a DH against West Frankfort Blitz 12u team on Friday night.
In the first game, despite seeing their 4 run lead whittled down by the end, Salem Cats 12u still held off for a 6-5 victory. Julianna Rushing earned the win for Salem Cats 12u. The starter surrendered 4 hits, 5 runs (2 earned) over 4 innings, striking out five and walking three. Nadea Crist came in relief and collected the save.
In the second game – Salem Cats Defeats Blitz on Back of Clutch Display from Mira Deadmond. Mira drove in 5 runs on two hits to lead Salem Cats 12u past Blitz 12u 15-4. Salem scored 11 runs in the 4th inning – Harper McCarthy singled, scoring one run; Mira hit a grand slam, Ana Thompson singled, scoring one run, Izzabella grounded out scoring one run, Shaylee doubled scoring 2 runs, Kaylee tripled scoring 1 run, and Nadea singled scoring one run. Kaylee let the team with 3 hits in 3 at bats. Shaylee, Harper McCarthy, Avree Winegarner and Julianna each collected multiple hits. Nadea earned the win for Salem. The hurler gave up 6 hits and 4 runs over 5 innings, striking out 8 and walking 4.
