This weekend, the Centralia High School Showcase on Stage will be performing its spring musical, High School Musical, based on the Disney Channel movie of the same name. Wednesday evening was the final rehearsal before opening night on Thursday. The show features a large cast and crew, including many newcomers to theater at CHS. Nora McKinzie, who plays Sharpay Evans, says the numbers have been needed to put together this large production.
“It’s a big show,” McKinzie said. “I think that’s the biggest thing. There’s a lot that goes into it behind the scenes, more than normal. That’s been the biggest thing, just how much goes into it.”
Matthew Rau, who plays Troy Bolton, says viewers can expect to see scenes from the movie faithfully recreated on stage.
“Our set reflects High School Musical a lot,” Rau said. “It’s very recognizable in the way that we dress and act. The set is based off our own school, so it’s realistic to a school setting.”
Director Jami Jacobs says she expects the shows to be well attended, with plenty of tickets already sold for the show on Friday.
Tickets to see High School Musical are $5 when purchased in advance online or $7 at the door. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with a matinee at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets can be found online at centraliamusic.ludus.com.
