The IHSA Basketball season finished up on Saturday with the boys state title games held at the State Farm Center in Champaign.

 

The Goreville Blackcats held a 10 point lead in the fourth quarter over Chicago Marshall, however Marshall would turn up their defensive intensity to 11 as they forced 23 turnovers and had a state record 18 steals in the 52-44 comeback win in Class 1a.    Zech Green had 13 to lead the Blackcats, Nick King and Lawson Land added 10.  Darrin Laye Jr had a huge game for Marshall with 30 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals.  Rayvon Myles had 7 steals in the game.  Goreville’s season ends at 34-5.

 

In 2a, Peoria Manual got 23 from Jaquan Brown as they held off Quincy Notre Dame 60-55.  Manual used a 7 minute stretch where they did not allow QND to score that helped them to the win.  Joshua Humbles added 14 for Manual.  Jace Allensworth had 21 in the loss and Gavin Doellman added 12.

 

The East St Louis Flyers are the 3a state champions after a 52-46 win over Deerfield.  Jamison White finished his high school career with 19 points and 17 rebounds including 11 offensive.  Alex Johnson added 14.  Jake Pollack had 15 in the loss for Deerfield.  East St Louis season ends a state title and a 33-4 record.

 

Marsit pulled off one of the biggest upsets at the state tournament in over 25 years as they knocked off nationally ranked Benet Academy 44-28.  Charles Barnes, Jr. led Marist with 13.  Colin Stack had 9 from Benet as they great season ends at 36-2.
