No one was injured when a car ran through the wall near the southwest corner of Jerry’s Bar and Grill at 835 Wabash in Wamac early Thursday afternoon.
Wamac Police say 80-year-old Marsha Hempen of Greenville was pulling into a parking space when she mistook the gas pedal for the brake and crashed into the building, with her vehicle coming to a stop nearly all the way inside. Fortunately, the dining room was not being used at the time as some of the tables and chairs were moved by the crash. Hempen also escaped injury. She was coming to the restaurant to have lunch with friends.
Repairs were quickly made by Jerry’s to allow business to resume as usual by Thursday evening.
