The Illinois Department of Natural Resources reports Fayette, Jefferson and Marion Counties were the top three counties in the state during the recently completed wild turkey archery season.

The total statewide harvest was 882, down from 1,045 last year.  Fayette County hunters bagged 33 birds, Jefferson County 32 and Marion County hunters 24 birds.  In Clay County 10 birds were taken, 12 in Clay County, 13 in Washington County and 19 in Wayne County.

There were 26,787 permits issued for the archery season this year.  The season runs from October 1st to January 18th.
