A Farina couple has died from injuries sustained in a February 19th crash on I-57 southbound near the Edgewood intersection in Effingham County.
76-year-old James Rentfro, who was the driver, died on March 3rd. His wife, Catherine Rentfrow, died on March 7th.
State Police say James Rentfrow was the driver of an SUV that was struck in the rear by a semi. Catherine was a passenger. The impact then pushed the Rentfrow vehicle into a car in front of it.
The driver of the truck, 61-year-old Mark Lawson of Dallas, Texas, was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was not injured.
Combined funeral services for James and Catherine Rentfrow will be held at eleven Saturday morning at the First Southern Baptist Church in Farina. Visitation will be from five to eight on Friday evening at the church and again from ten until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Campers on a Mission or First Southern Baptist Church of Farina and will be received at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home in Salem. Online condolences may be made at southernlandfuneralhome.com or on the funeral home’s Facebook page.
James Rentfrow was a dairy farmer who formerly lived in Effingham. He and his wife were both involved in Campers on a Mission, an organization of evangelical Christian campers and RVers dedicated to sharing their faith and love for Jesus through various missions.
