Nathan Lee Spain, age 28 of Salem, Illinois, lost his battle to glioblastoma on March 4, 2026, at his brother’s home in the loving care of his family.

Nathan was born to Jeffery and Carol (Mowery) Spain on August 26, 1997, in Centralia, Illinois.  He graduated from Raccoon Grade School in 2012 and Salem Community High School in 2016.  He attended Kaskaskia College before beginning his career in the Illinois Department of Corrections starting at Pinckneyville then transferring to the Centralia Correctional Center where he worked proudly alongside his brother.

Nathan was a man of many words and noises.  He loved to cook and eat delicious food.  He enjoyed playing video games with his friends, and a good sitcom but most of all he enjoyed being an uncle to his beloved nephew.

Nathan is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Carol Spain of New Madrid, Missouri; his brother, Jakeb Spain and wife Nikki of Salem; one nephew, Lukas and another one to join in August; several aunts and uncles, and a slew of cousins.  He is also survived by a special friend, Rachel Mass, along with several coworkers turned friends, and his dog, Khloe and cat, Thor.  He will be deeply missed by all.

Funeral services for Nathan Lee Spain will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Jim Chapman officiating.  There will be a time of visitation from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.  Memorial donations can be made to the benefit of his nephew’s college fund (checks payable to Jakeb Spain).  Online condolences and memories can be left at www.CrouseFH.com.
