The Marion County Board set a procedure in place to search for a new Supervisor of Assessments when Mark Miller retires at the end of the year.

The board has established a new sub-committee under the county and community committee to handle the process.

County Board Chair Steve Whritenour says the sub-committee’s first meeting will be on March ninth when the committee will look at four potential consultants to guide the replacement.

“This is going to be a long process,” Whritenour said. “It’s not easy that somebody’s leaving mid-term. We will need to get our ducks in a row and make sure we have everybody on the same page including Mark, and we’re going to run with it.”

The committee will consider Gary Twist, who did the study critical of the office’s operation, as one of the four.  But a few board members wanted to look at other choices because they were not happy with how Twist did his study.   In addition to working to find a new Supervisor of Assessments, the consultant could also begin retraining office staff to improve the office’s function.
