The Salem Wildcats honored their winter senior athletes including their lone basketball player Ryegan Warren last night before their game with Wood River. Salem opened the game with a big alley-oop dunk from Warren on a great pass from Kaeden Bevolo and Salem was off and running in a 69-32. Warren would finish with 9 points for the Cats. Sophomore Logan Butts had a great game going for 15 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Payton Gullion finished with 13, Avery Gullion was also in double figures with 12. Salem will finish off the regular season and their final Cahokia Conference game ever when they host Roxana on Tuesday.
Freeburg handed Breese Central a 55-37 loss as the Midgets put 4 in double figures and avenge a 23 point loss earlier to Breese this season. The Cougars were just 3-23 from the three point line and 7-17 from the free throw line.
Also in the Cahokia, Roxana beat Columbia 57-46 to tie the Eagles with 2 losses in the conference with one game each. Breese Central is sitting with 3 losses. Roxana closes down their schedule Tuesday at Salem while Columbia and Freeburg will play that night as well.
The Centralia Orphans clinched their 31st and final South 7 title with a 45-26 home in over Marion on Senior Night. Archie Goewey had 14 and Devin Meier 13 in the win. The Orphans are 27-1 overall and finish 7-0 in the conference. The Orphans are back in action tonight when they host Paducah Tilghman at 2pm JV start today.
Junior David Barnes scored 18 and went over career point 1000 as Mt Vernon beat Cahokia 64-30. Cale Maurer added 11 for the Rams who improve to 19-7 and will host Marshall County, Kentucky tonight.
Also last night, Christ Our Rock lost to Marquette 56-28, Carlyle beat Red Bud 57-42, Flora fell to St Anthony 59-46, Nashville overcame a 4th quarter deficit to beat Pinckneyville 44-38, Patoka/Odin routed Ramsey 72-28.
