Delmar R. Mick, 88, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, left us surrounded by his family to join his beloved wife on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
Delmar was born April 1, 1937, in Broughton, Illinois, the son of Walter E. Mick and Nellie (Mick) Williams. He married Patricia A. Hamilton on October 24, 1958, at Park Avenue Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and she preceded his death on May 23, 2022.
He leaves seven children behind: Dale Mick and wife Tonya of Albers, Illinois, Jason Mick of Dix, Illinois, Patricia Flowers, Theresa Mick, Mia Kaye, Cara Donoho, and Tara Mick of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two brothers: Larry (Deon) Mick and wife Martha of House Springs, Missouri, Richard Mick of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and one sister, Dorothy O’Conner of Hillsboro, Missouri.
Delmar was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. Mick, his parents, Walter and Nellie, and five siblings: Selvada Mick, Albert Mick, Clayton Mick, Christine Minor, and Beluah Hudson.
He proudly served in the National Guard and in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the VFW Post 1307 and American Legion Post 141 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was a hard worker and lived a life full of experience, including as a truck driver, custodian, bus driver, laborer, equipment operator, and later in life, he most of all enjoyed being an owner and operator of his business, M&M Crane Services. He was full of life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. We will miss him for his quick wit and his life stories that he shared with everyone he met.
In accordance with their wishes, the ashes of both Delmar and Patricia will be buried together in a private family ceremony to honor their lifelong commitment. A military salute and honors will be rendered by American Legion Post 141, Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
