Darrell Lee Shook, a lifelong resident of Centralia, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the age of 81. Born and raised in Centralia, Darrell is the son of Chris Shook and Marie (Shaw) Shook. He married Patricia Robbins on April 2, 1965, and they later divorced. He married Carol Hart on February 28, 1991, in Boyd, IL; they divorced.

Darrell leaves two sons, Darrell Shook and Douglas Shook, both of whom reside in Centralia. Cherished by his sisters, Patricia Thomas and Karen Roetemeyer, who also reside in Centralia. Darrell’s family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a proud and loving relative to countless family members, including close cousins Larry Shook and Marla Cameron, and members of his extended family: Scott Wreath, Debbie Wreath, Chad Wreath, Alan Sanner, and Bruce Wreath. His legacy includes four nieces, two nephews, four great-nieces, four great-nephews, eight great-great-nieces, and two great-great-nephews. Darrell’s family ties also extended to his brother-in-law, Mike Robbins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, David Shook, and a sister, Christine Hartman.

Darrell dedicated 25 years of service as a Scale Inspector for the IC Railroad Precision Scale. His work ethic and integrity were admired by his colleagues and peers. A devoted member of the Rock Church, Darrell found great joy and solace in his faith community. He was a huge Centralia Orphan fan. His passions included golfing, enjoying the tranquility of farm life, and, most importantly, cherishing time spent with his loved ones.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 20, at 11:00 am at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois. Family and friends may gather for a visitation beginning at 10:00 am until the time of the service at the Funeral Home. In honor of Darrell’s generous spirit, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Shriners, organizations close to his heart, and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home located at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to Darrell’s Family.
