A one-year-old Centralia girl has been transported to a St. Louis Hospital after allegedly putting a pill containing fentanyl in her mouth.
Centralia City Firemen responded to a medical call at a home in the 600 block of South Locust around 3:30 Friday afternoon, where they were told the girl earlier had a pill in her mouth. Firemen were told the pill had already been thrown away before their arrival, and they never saw the pill.
The girl reportedly approached the firefighters and appeared to be behaving normally for a young child. She was initially transferred by ambulance to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia and later taken to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis.
Fire officials say a doctor treating her there was insistent on finding out what was in the pill. The girl’s mother allegedly said later that the pill contained fentanyl.
No updated condition on the girl was available on Saturday.
