There were two wrecks with injuries early Friday morning on I-57 in Marion County.
The first occurred at mile marker 111 five miles south of Salem when a northbound truck ran into the median and overturned on its side. The driver was able to get out of the truck on his own but was taken to Salem Township Hospital to be checked. The trailer full of bananas stayed intact. The truck was licensed to Texas. The crash was reported at 3:45 Friday morning. No lanes of the interstate had to be closed.
The second crash occurred on the entrance to the southbound rest area on I-57 two miles south of Salem. Salem Assistant Fire Chief Bill Fulton says the driver, a man from Effingham, began feeling ill and was pulling into the rest area to rest when he apparently passed out and ran into the rear of a parked semi. The driver and passenger were able to get out of the car on their own. Both were taken to Salem Township Hospital to be checked. The truck driver was not hurt. The crash was reported at 6:15 Friday morning.
Both crashes are under investigation by State Police.
