The Salem Wildcats return to The Gum tonight when they host DuQuoin.  JV tip at 4:30 with the varsity game on WJBD starting around 6p.

 

The Cats made their final road trip in the Cahokia Conference last night as they traveled to state ranked Columbia and lost 48-39.  Salem trailed 11-0 to start the game, but after that the Cats settled in and outscored the Eagles the rest of the way 39-37 including a 7-0 run for Salem to start the 4th quarter that got the lead down to 4.

 

Eddie Smajic was just too good, as the D1 recruit scored a game high 22 points and hit big shots that were well defended to help the Eagles keep the lead.  Brody Landgraf had 11.

 

Salem was led by Kaeden Bevolo with 11 points and 5 rebounds, Luke Boldt hit 3 three’s off the bench for his 9, Avery Gullion had 7 points to go with 4 blocks and 5 steals.  Payton Gullion added 7 points, Ryegan Warren added 5.

 

The Salem JV lost 70-57 to o pen the night.  Luke Boldt had 14, Gavin harper added 12 and 11 each from Brendan Smith and Ryan Jones.

 

Also in the Cahokia, Breese Central keeps their hopes alive in league as they hand Roxana their 2nd conference loss 63-50 and Freeburg beat Wood River 61-38.
