An attempt to thaw a frozen waterline started a fire that caused minor damage at a rural Bluford home early Saturday morning.
Kell Fire Assistant Chief Jason Franke says mutual aid was requested from six departments after the original dispatch indicated a house fire due to the extreme cold weather. However, upon arrival at the Dustin Donoho home at 23561 North Heritage Road, they discovered the fire was confined to a few floor joists. Donoho reportedly used a torpedo torch to try to thaw the frozen waterline.
Franke says once learning of the small area of the fire, all the other departments were cancelled. Kell Firemen did cut a five-by-five-foot section of wall near the burned floor joists to confirm the fire had not spread.
