Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says the sheriff’s department handled 14,739 calls during 2025.   That’s an increase of 4,421 over 2024, but Cripps says at least some of the increase is due to better record keeping that has resulted in more calls being logged.

Cripps says there was a drop in burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property.  Burglary cases dropped 10 cases to 45, theft cases from 140 to 123, and criminal damage to property complaints fell from 68 to 64.   The number of accidents handled by the department was 530, down from 592 in 2024.

The sheriff’s department saw a large jump in extra patrol requests which he credits to the department making the service more known.  The calls went from 58 to 866.   There was also a large rise in the number of traffic tickets issued, from 454 to 912.  Cripps says with a full staff, the department was able to do increased patrols.   Warrant arrest jumped from 51 to 64, which Cripps feels is tied to increased warrants being issued for those who don’t come to court after being released on pre-trial conditions.

The number of suspicious vehicle and person reports were up significantly to 278 suspicious vehicle complaints and 408 suspicious persons.

The department also responded to 28 sex offenses, 33 batteries, 272 domestic calls, 201 freedom of information requests.
