The Iuka Fire Protection District has named Bryan Smith as its Firefighter of the Year. The award was announced at the annual Firemen’s Supper this week. The Firefighter of the Year is voted on by fellow firefighters.
Smith has been on the department since 2023 and had one of the highest number of training hours as well being one of the top responders for the district.
Chief Kenny Eagan says Bryan is an asset to the department and well deserving of the award.
Chief Eagan reported that the Iuka Fire District responded to 165 calls for 2025 which is an average year. 106 runs to assist EMS, 21 ground cover fires, 14 vehicle accidents, 13 Mutual Aid calls, 7 vehicle and equipment fires and 1 structure fire. Eagan noted there was an increase in mutual aid calls, several of which were for the use of the Fire District’s drone with thermal detection capabilities to locate missing or wanted persons.
