The Salem City Council has decided to add a permanent spring cleanup to the traditional fall cleanup.
The council agreed the experimental spring cleanup last year was useful in cleaning up town. The city will absorb the cost of the extra cleanup which as been added to their contract with Sunrise Sanitation at a cost of 61-cents per month per customer.
Sunrise Sanitation also had their contract for pickup of residential trash extended two more years, with five percent increases in January 2029 and January 2030. Owner Christy Blackwell said going back to a five-year contract will allow her to have a better business model.
She also noted a service she offers to pick up large items with a phone call at any time with a price to be set with the resident is being used quite often.
