State Police have released further details on the Friday night crash on East Main Street near Lackey Street that resulted in eight injuries and five were eventually transported by medical helicopter to regional hospitals.

State Police say the westbound car on East Main, driven by 25-year-old Noah Bishop of Carbondale, crossed the centerline and struck the rear driver’s side of a pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Jonathon McConnaughhay of Salem.  Bishop then continued further into the eastbound lane and struck an oncoming SUV driven by 34-year-old Melissa Carroll of Salem.

Police report there were four persons in the Bishop’s car.  Bishop was transported to an area hospital and later flown to a regional hospital with serious injuries.  All three passengers were seriously injured and transported by medical helicopter to regional hospitals.  They are identified as 27-year-old Samaya Spillers of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, 24-year-old Annabelle Hartline of Carbondale, and 28-year-old Luther Woods of DuQuion.

There were also four people in the SUV driven by Carroll.  All three passengers were juveniles.  One of the juveniles was flown by medical helicopter to a regional hospital, while Carroll and the two other juveniles were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

McConnaughhay told police at the scene he was not hurt.

Bishop was ticketed for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

The crash occurred just before six Friday night.  US 50 was not reopened to traffic until shortly after eight pm.
