The Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District has set its 81st Annual Meeting and Dinner for February 16th at the Marion County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building. Doors open at 5:30 with the evening meal beginning at 6:30 pm.
The catered meal includes fried chicken and ham along with twice baked potato casserole, gourmet baby carrots, green beans, homemade noodles, seven-layer salad, rolls and butter.
Three district directors will be elected and a number of conservation awards presented. The 2025 winning soil judging team, LUC 13 Envirothon and poster contest winners will also be recognized. The evening will conclude with the presentation of door prizes.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the District Office at 1550 East Main in Salem. They can also be reserved by calling 618-548-2230 Extension 3. The deadline to reserve tickets is February 12th.
The district has a new Resource Conservationist. Jonathon Wilkins of Salem is a graduate of Salem Community High School and recently graduated from the agriculture program at Kaskaskia College. He liked the opportunity to work with landowners on conservation plans. Wilkins also has a small farm of his own.
