The Marion County Highway Department is moving forward on preliminary work on the replacement of the Skillet Fork Bridge on the Route 161 Extension.
Funding has now been obtained for the project that is still an estimated four years away from complete.
County Highway Engineer Alex R. Kreke says the next step is preliminary engineering.
“The Marion County Highway Department is accepting Statements of Qualifications from professional engineering firms for Preliminary Engineering services related to the removal and replacement of the bridge located on Illinois Route 161 Extension crossing Skillet Fork. Those qualified and interested in submitting shall submit their packet to the Marion County Highway Department by January 23rd, 2026 at 3:00 pm.
