The Marion County Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB) has successfully completed a school indoor mapping project funded through an Illinois State Police (ISP) 911 Grant.
The project provided detailed, GIS-based indoor maps for schools throughout the Marion County dispatch service area and has now been fully delivered to participating schools and public safety agencies.
The project was completed in partnership with GeoComm and involved close coordination with local schools to obtain building information, floor plans, and site-specific details. Using these resources, along with verification when needed, GeoComm developed high-quality indoor maps that are integrated into public safety systems. These maps are now accessible to emergency responders to support faster, safer, and more informed responses during critical incidents.
School administrators and staff have been provided access to their building maps through a secure, interactive software application, allowing them to view layouts, submit updates, and print hard-copy maps as needed.
Marion County 911 Coordinator Stacey Arenas says this was a great opportunity for the Marion County Community.
“Working directly with our local schools allowed us to ensure the information was accurate and useful. Now that the project is complete, our schools and first responders share critical information that strengthens preparedness and enhances safety for students, staff, and the public.”
This completed initiative reflects Marion County ETSB’s continued commitment to improving emergency response capabilities and supporting school safety through technology and collaboration.
