The Centralia Orphans beat archrival Mt Vernon in the South 7 Conference opener for both teams by a final of 57-39. Jaxson Hancock led the balanced Orphans attack with 20, Archie Goewey added 12 with Mike Organ and Kenny Bratton scoring 11 each. Dave Barnes had 11 of his 15 to lead Mt Vernon in the first half. Centralia improves to 8-0 while the Rams fall to 4-1. The Orphans also won the JV game 48-41 as Dre Hooper had 18. Mt Vernon will play today at the Get Down Shootout in Carbondale when they play Homewood-Flossmoor at 4pm.
