Tommy Jeter, 74, of Salem, passed away at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on November 28th, 2025, with his family by his side. He was born in Salem to Frank and Bertha (Scissom) Jeter on September 10th, 1951. He would marry Penny Munsey on March 3rd, 1973, and they would spend 52 amazing years together till her passing.
Tommy was a member of the Alma Christian Church. He loved to go hunting, fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He loved being retired after 43 years of working for the railroad. His biggest joy came from his time away from work with his family.
He is survived by his daughter: Misty (Kevin) Meyer of Centralia; son: Jeffrey (Lori) Jeter of Alma; seven grandsons: Justin Jeter, Jason Jeter, Corey (Amber) Meyer, Caden (Cassie) Meyer, Kaleb (Maecy) Meyer, Cameron Meyer, and Lodan (Kenzie) Brubaker; seven great grandchildren: Holden, Brexley, Kamden, Brooks, Harlow, Grayson, and Ridgeley; sister-in-law: Sharon Jeter; brother: Frank (Ruth) Jeter; sister: Claudia Powell; sister-in-law: Cindy (Bob) Spencer of Salem; brother-in-law: James (Stephanie) Munsey; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Bertha Jeter; wife: Penny Jeter; son: Kenneth Edward Jeter; mother-in-law: Virginia Munsey; brother: Fred Jeter; sister and brother-in-law: Patricia (John) Crites; and brother-in-law: Vernon Powell.
Cremation rites will be accorded, per family wishes. A time of visitation will be held at 11:00 am on December 5th, 2025, at the Alma Christian Church. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 5th, 2025, at 2:00 pm at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alma Christian Church and will be accepted at the service or Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home, PO Box 97, Salem, Illinois 62881.
