A 26-year-old Chillicothe, IL, man was airlifted to a regional hospital from the scene of a deer hunting accident in rural Odin late Saturday afternoon.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reports Thomas Papnick was getting out of a tree stand in a wooded area off Young Road, east of Westline Road, when he accidentally shot himself in the foot.
Arriving deputies were taken by golf cart to Papnick’s location, where they administered aid. United Medical Response and Odin Firemen later assisted in getting Papnick to the Air Evac helicopter, where he was flown for further medical assistance.
The incident was reported at 4:40 p.m. on Saturday.
