The Salem Elks have presented a gratitude grant to the Redemption Church on North Hotze Road in Salem.

The Elk’s Mike Hooe says the grant will go to their food pantry.

“The gratitude grant has a base value of $3,000,” Hooe said. “We usually pick that up every year. In the past ear, Elks national offered bonuses for any lodge that was able to accomplish certain tasks that they assigned. Our lodge accomplished three of those tasks. Each of those tasks was worth $500, so that gave us $4,500 to give away this year.”

Assistant Pastor Dustin Harmon accepted the grant.  The money will be used to purchase additional food for their distributions.

The Redemption Church offers a drive-through food pantry on the fourth Saturday of every month, including this Saturday from ten to noon.

Like most food pantries, they are seeing higher usage due to rising costs.
