Centralia City Firefighters report a vacant home at 312 North Locust was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival early Wednesday morning.
Fire and police were told there had been two homeless residents who were apparently squatting in the home that had been vacant for several years. However, no one was around when the fire was discovered.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation.
Damage to the home was so bad, that a city backhoe was called in to knock down what remained of the walls because they were unstable.
The fire call came in at 1:24 Wednesday morning. All available Centralia City Firemen were called in and the Centralia Fire Protection District provided mutual aid at the scene. Odin stood by at the Centralia Fire Station in the event of another fire.
