A 55-year-old Salem man was arrested less than 20 minutes after a stabbing was reported at a home just north of Salem early Tuesday night.

Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says Bryan Hester of East Rainey Street got into a confrontation when going to a home in the 4300 block of North Hotze Road just north of Salem.   An altercation began with 56-year-old Allan Phillips, who had been staying in the house for a few days.

Cripps says Hester pulled a pocket knife with a three-inch blade and stabbed Phillips one time in the right arm.

Phillips was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment, where he later checked out.

Hester was gone when sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene.   They sought assistance from Salem Police, who located Hester at his home on East Rainey and held him until a deputy came to question and eventually arrest him for aggravated battery.

Hester remains in the Marion County Jail awaiting a final decision on charges and a first appearance in court.
