The Franklin Park Middle School Student Council coordinated the first Thank You program for Veterans held at the school Monday afternoon.

Principal Tyler Lux welcomed the veterans to the school.

“Today is more than a day on the calendar,” Lux said. “It is a time for us to pause, reflect, and express our gratitude to those who have protected the freedoms that we enjoy each and every day. Whether serving at home or around the world, our veterans have demonstrated selflessness, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to our nation. To our honored veterans, active service members, and their families, we say thank you. Your service and sacrifice inspire us all.”

The Franklin Park Concert Band played the national anthem while both the band and choir performed patriotic songs.

Student Council members shared in a reading thanking the veterans who were then individually introduced with their association with any student announced.  At the end of the introductions, all those in attendance gave the veterans a standing ovation.

Student Council Vice President Sawyer Clark then closed the program.

“Many veterans are here today to remind us of our freedom and liberties,” Clark said. “We are in awe of your bravery and commitment to the United States of America and humbled in your presence. This day will be a constant reminder to our students and staff that so many veterans live among us and deserve the highest respect and gratitude that we can offer.”

The program began with a meet and greet with the veterans with light refreshments served and a parade through the school halls with the marching band.

Lux said he had been wanting to do a veteran’s program for some time and was pleased with how the student council took up the task of putting together the program he hopes will become an annual one.
