Both drivers were injured in a two-vehicle crash at Walnut Hill Road and Airport Road southeast of Centralia early Thursday evening.
Preliminary information from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department indicates 78-year-old Harold Skambraks of Annette Drive in Centralia was northbound on Airport Road when he pulled from the stop sign and collided with a westbound SUV on Walnut Hill Road driven by 43-year-old Amanda Simpson of Dix-Irvington Road in rural Walnut Hill.
An Air Evac helicopter was initially called, but was cancelled, and both drivers were taken by ambulance to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Skambraks had to be extricated from his van by the Centralia Fire Protection District.
The crash occurred just before five on Thursday evening.
