The Centralia City Grade School Board was told Tuesday night they have received a State Board of Education Grant to once again offer a tutoring program for students who need additional assistance this school year.

Curriculum Coordinator Elizabeth Hollenkamp expects the program to help 60 to 75 students at all grade levels.

“Moving forward starting in November, we’ll have the after-school program that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” Hollenkamp said. “Our district does provide transportation for those students that could benefit from that additional support. In addition to students who use that additional support we are also having two classrooms for any of our English learner students as well to ensure their success.”

The grant also covers the transportation expenses for students.  The program has been offered for several years.

The Centralia City Grade School Board approved its tentative tax levy at 4.99 percent over the amount of property taxes collected last year.

The staff was commended for the 99 percent of parents who attended parent-teacher conferences this fall.  The percentage is up considerably from a few years ago.

The board agreed to seek a $50,000 matching state maintenance grant, but have not yet decided on what project will be completed.

The board acted on a number of personnel issues.  Sophia Schossler was approved as a Color Guard volunteer and KaLeah Agip, Samantha Cato, and Shiloh Meadows were approved as volleyball volunteers.  The board dismissed paraprofessional Walter Gardner and accepted the resignation of bus driver Ulysses Dry.
