There will be at least six new faces on the Marion County Board after next year’s election.
Those deciding not to file petitions for the March primary election before Monday’s deadline were Sharon Woodward in District One, Deb Reed in District Two, Judith Meeks-Hakeem and Chris Krupp in District Four, and Debbie Smith and Adam Smith in District Five.
Three more Republicans filed for some of those seats on Monday. They are Ross Boshera and David Jourdan in District Four and Christopher Duncan in District Five.
Those filing earlier for open board seats were Harvey Evans V in District One, Incumbent Jack Riley in District Two, and Josh Dunahee for the District Three seat he was earlier appointed.
Districts two and five have second open board seats for which no one applied.
County Clerk Steve Fox says open ballot positions can still be filled by party caucus or write-in candidates. The deadline for write-in candidates for the March primary is January 15th. If no candidate was nominated at the primary election, June 1st is the final date for a party to nominate a candidate to fill an open position in the November election.
There is only one contested race in Marion County. That is for county clerk, with Greg Wright and Zach Rose facing off against each other to replacing retiring Steve Fox. Sheriff Kevin Cripps and Treasurer Gary Purcell are currently unopposed for re-election.
No Democrats have filed for any office other than precinct committeemen.
