A 25-year-old Salem man faces eight criminal charges after allegedly abusing a Salem woman, refusing to let her leave, and then resisting and attempting to escape from Salem Police Officers.

Wyatt Dailey of East Church was formally charged in Marion County Court Tuesday with escape, two counts of unlawful restraint, three counts of domestic battery, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and aggravated assault.

Dailey is accused in the domestic battery cases of dumping water, pushing down, and striking the alleged female victim with his hands.  The unlawful restraint charges accuse him of trapping and preventing the alleged victim from leaving.  All the incidents occurred on October 29th and 30th.  The aggravated assault charge accused him of being armed with a metal baseball bat while detaining the alleged victim in a closet.

Dailey is charged with escape after running from a Salem Police officer being arrested and placed in handcuffs.   He was taken into custody following a brief chase across the Walmart parking lot on Saturday after they initially had been called to a report of Dailey being involved in a retail theft.  Walmart declined to press charges and Dailey was taken into custody on the other charges.

Salem Police first began investigating the case after the victim’s mother came to the police station after Dailey would not allow her daughter to leave the residence with her.  After police went to the home, the victim was allowed to leave and told police Dailey had come at her with a baseball bat, locked her in a room and grabbed her as well as threatening to shoot her mother.

At his first court appearance on Monday, Dailey was ordered held without bond.  Judge Ericka Sanders noted Dailey was already on probation for a series of previous offenses, history of prior violent offenses and based on the victim’s statements.

Dailey is due back in court November 20th for a preliminary hearing.  A public defender was appointed to represent him.
