The Salem City Council Monday night approved the low bid from Howell Paving of Salem to resurface Airport Road from Mills Cart to Boone.  Their bid was $119,917.  The resurfacing will take place next summer.   The project will not address draining issues along Airport Road, but the city is now working with an engineer for the design of drainage improvements.

The council received no bids for purchase of the city’s animal control facility on Cartter Road.  It was earlier surplussed when Marion County was looking for an animal control location, but they elected not to submit a bid at their last meeting as they look at other options.

The council gave second reading approval to a 3.51 percent increase in the property tax levy, but the issue will come before them again because the two votes were not 30 days apart.

The council unanimously rejected a change in the liquor ordinance to allow liquor hours on Christmas Eve to be extended from six pm to midnight.  One of the liquor license holders had asked for the change.
