Two Salem residents were arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop early Sunday morning in the parking lot of the McDonald’s Restaurant.

Salem Police say the passenger ran on foot after the Salem canine alerted on the vehicle.  The passenger was identified as 35-year-old Tim Pomeroy, who indicated he was homeless.  He allegedly ran from the car and threw several items that were identified as small packages of methamphetamine before being stopped a short distance away.  The driver, identified as 34-year-old Edward Hurd of Westport Drive in Salem, was later arrested when additional meth was found in the car.

Pomeroy was arrested for possession of under five grams of meth and resisting arrest for attempting to flee the scene.  Hurd was charged with possession of under five grams of meth.   Both were later released from the Marion County Jail on notices to appear.

The original traffic stop for a lighting issue occurred at 1:40 Sunday morning.
