The IHSA Regional volleyball championships were played last night.
The Centralia Annies fell to the back to back reigning state champions as top ranked Mater Dei won the Mt Vernon Regional 25-19, 25-12.
Also Chatham Glenwood won the Jerseyville Regional over Triad, Taylorville beat the hosts at Mt Zion and Mascoutah beat the hosts at Waterloo.
In 2a, Nashville upset top seed and state ranked Breese Central to win the Greenville Regional 25-23, 29-27. Effingham won on their home court knocking off TTown, Carmi beat Newton at Hamilton County, Fairfield won the Mt Carmel title over Benton, at Paris it was Shelbyville beating top seed Pana. Althoff beat the hosts at Red Bud, Columbia knocked off Father McGivney at Roxana, top-seed Massac County won at Vianna beating DuQuoin and Staunton over Hillsboro at Virden.
In 1a, Carlyle beat the top seeded hosts at Nokomis 25-22, 22-25, 28-26 to advance to sectional play next week.
Arthur beat the hosts at Casey, Trico over the hosts at Cobden, NCOE over Cisne at Elkville, Gibault upset top seed Marissa at Marissa, Steeleville over Goreville at Sparta, Okawville beat the hosts at St Elmo/Brownstown, Edwards County over Wayne City at Thompsonville and Windsor won at home beating Oblong.
In 4a, Belleville East won at home over O’Fallon and Edwardsville won the Granite City Regional over Quincy.
